This Privacy Policy describes how Lion Lift handles information when you use the Lion Lift iPhone app, this website, the Apple Watch companion (when released), and the Lion Lift connector that lets an AI assistant of your choice work with your training data.
Who is responsible
Lion Lift is a hobby project made and published by Seth Roth, an individual (there is no company or legal entity). You can contact Seth about privacy using the details on the Support page.
Information we collect
Account information. You can create an account with an email address and password, or sign in with Google. We receive your email address and the name you provide. Sign-in is handled by Google Firebase Authentication.
Athlete profile. If you choose to provide them, we store details such as your name, sex, and training experience level.
Training records. We store the workouts you log or schedule: lifts (exercises, sets, weights in pounds, reps, notes, dates and muscle groups), runs, swims, rides and core sessions, along with your weekly goals, daily log entries, lift scores and preferences where you use those features. Run replay may include route and heart-rate, pace, power and elevation details recorded for a workout.
Apple Health and Apple Fitness data. If you grant permission in iOS, Lion Lift can read workout summaries (such as time and calories), heart rate, heart rate variability and resting heart rate, and can save heart rate and calories recorded during a lift to Apple Health. Workout data you bring in from Apple Fitness/Apple Health is stored in our database (Google Cloud Firestore) so it can appear in your history and be available to an assistant you connect. You control these permissions in the iOS Settings and Health apps. We do not use this data for advertising or marketing.
Device features. The app can request access to the microphone and speech recognition (for dictating feedback), and motion sensors and Bluetooth (to record workout movement and to connect to supported devices).
Feedback. If you send feedback from the app, we receive what you submit.
Launch email list. If you enter your email on this website to be notified about the launch, we store that address (and the time and the fact that it came from the website) in our database. We use it only to tell you about Lion Lift's launch.
Analytics and tracking. Lion Lift does not currently use analytics, crash-reporting or advertising services, and does not sell data or track you across other apps or sites.
How we use information
- To provide the app: store and sync your training records, show your dashboard and progress, and sync scheduled workouts to Apple Fitness and your Apple Watch.
- To generate workouts you ask for inside the app. This sends a request containing your selected goal, muscle group, preferred lifts, notes, and the profile details described above to a Lion Lift service, which uses OpenAI's API to produce the workout.
- To let an AI assistant you connect read your records and schedule workouts, as described below.
- To send you launch updates if you joined the email list.
- To respond to support and feedback requests, and to keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
The AI assistant connector
When you connect an AI assistant to Lion Lift, you sign in with the Google account linked to your Lion Lift account. The connector then lets that assistant:
- Read your workout records and related training data, and basic profile details (name, sex, training experience), for the account you signed in with.
- Write one kind of change: scheduling a new lift, interval run, pool swim or bike workout. It cannot delete or edit your completed workouts.
Lion Lift's connector is tested with ChatGPT and Claude. Data the connector returns is sent to the assistant you chose, and that provider handles it under its own terms and privacy policy. We do not control what the assistant provider does with your conversation. Only connect assistants you trust, and review what an assistant proposes before approving it. The connector applies per-account rate limits on how often it can be called.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. These service providers process information on our behalf:
- Google: Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore (database), Google Sign-In, and Google Cloud hosting for the connector.
- OpenAI: processes in-app workout-generation requests, as described above.
- Hosting providers for Lion Lift's supporting services (workout generation, workout content and feedback) and for this website, including Vercel.
- Apple: Apple Health, Apple Fitness, WorkoutKit and Apple Maps features on your device.
- The AI assistant provider you choose to connect (such as OpenAI or Anthropic), as described above.
Retention and deletion
We keep your data in our Firestore database using Firestore's defaults, meaning we do not apply an automatic expiry. Data stays until it is deleted.
You can delete your account in the app: open Profile and choose Delete Account. This removes your lift, run, bike and swim records, your user profile document, and your sign-in account.
To be removed from the launch email list, contact us using the details on the Support page.
Your choices
- Manage Apple Health permissions in iOS Settings and the Health app.
- Disconnect an assistant from that assistant's connector settings.
- Update your profile details in the app, or delete your account as described above.
- Contact us to ask about your information. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (such as access, correction or deletion).
